BOOKS AND PUBLICATIONS |
|
Library: We have an increasing range of books available both for study on the premises and to be taken out on loan. Until recently these were not formally catalogued but we are currently in the process of setting up a database to simplify research by subject. A complete set of Theravada Buddhist texts in English is also available. These are not to be taken out of the library but you are welcome to come in and study them at the Vihara. Also available on loan are a number of scholastic and meditation books suitable to both practitioners and students. You can visit our database. We would welcome the donation of books in good condition on subjects such as all schools of Buddhism, other world religions, philosophy, psychology and health.
Books For Sale: Over the past few years there have been increasing requests from visitors for books for sale. As a result we have recently brought some books over from Asia and these are available together with others published locally. While some books have a cover price, there are others for which you are welcome to leave a donation. All profits go to the upkeep of the Vihara and towards future publishing ventures. The range is still small and you are requested to ring us or e-mail to see whether what you are looking for is currently available. The range of books covers Theravadin Buddhism, meditation and scholastic subjects.
Publishing: Under the name of the Dhammatalaka Pagoda we have launched a publishing venture. Four books written by the Venerable Dr. Rewata Dhamma have already been published with a further one in the pipeline. |

Lotus Review: Twelve months ago we redesigned our quarterly newsletter to incorporate a lay review. This has proved extremely popular with an ever increasing mailing list and copies available at the Pagoda. The range of writing is varied with contributions both from monastic and lay practitioners. The news section informs on events that have taken place over the past quarter, publicises forthcoming events and, increasingly, gives space to events occurring within the wider spiritual community. This Review is for free distribution although donations are always welcome. |
